you may need to install the basic c libraries. 
on debian/buntu based systems, you may need to do a sudo apt-get install \

aptitude install libc-dev g++ build-essential


although it's not needed to compile, don't forget to install xprintidle, which is required for 
the program to run properly. if you haven't done so already, run

apt-get install xprintidle
